Green Light!

Green Means Go!

Green is when we’re calm, regulated and logical. Green is where learning happens! Green is our thinking brain and it is located physically behind our foreheads. When we’re on green is the smartest (literally) that we’re going to be. If you have an average IQ of 100, you’ll be at 100 on green. We can solve problems and enjoy our time together. Little ones on green might feel relaxed, their needs are met. Needs being met is an important distinction for all of us, really, because we tend to look at anything other than green as willful or intentionally trying to make our lives harder. For us as adults, we might find ourselves humming a pleasant tune or breathing freely, feeling like we have more room to connect with the people in our lives.

When we see a green light at an intersection, it means we can go. Green means go. Have the conversation. Problem solve. Explain things. Enjoy each other’s company. Figure out who’s making dinner. Make a plan to get more exercise or go on a camping trip. Green means go. It’s the space in your brain to go and do.

As I’m sure you’ve figured out in one way or another, we don’t just stay on green all the time. It’s unfortunate from our logical brain perspective, but I’ve come to understand that green doesn’t equal “good” and the other brain states equal “bad.”
